I completed the 20th Marathon des
Sables in April raising money for NCH childrens charity.

What is the Marathon des Sables?
I completed the 20th Marathon des
Sables. The MdS is one of the toughest endurance running
races in the world. It takes place over 7 days in the
Sahara desert covering a distance of around 250 kms (or
150 miles). Competitors must carry all the equipment that
they require for the duration (except for water and a
tent). To find out more about the race see darbaroud.com and saharamarathon.co.uk.
Who are NCH?
NCH is one of the UK's leading
children's charities. For over 130 years they have been
supporting children or young people who face difficulties
such as poverty, disability or abuse. NCH is currently
the largest UK provider of services to disabled children
and their families, of neighbourhood and family community
centres and of services for young people leaving care.
They also run many other services aimed at helping
children and young people achieve their potential. Please
visit the NCH website.
For the record
I finished 185th (out of 798) and
was the 26th placed Brit (out of 214). It took me 37
hours 12 minutes and 39 seconds to cover the course at an
average speed of 6.6 kmph. Full results and pictures
available at Darbaroud.com.
How to help?
DONATE MONEY! All money I raise
will go to the NCH. Plus, 92 pence of each pound spent by
NCH goes towards their work with children and young
people (more than any other major childrens charity). So,
any donation, however small, will be put to good use. You
can donate securely online by cliking here or
contact me in person.
SPREAD THE WORD! If you have been
interested by what you have read about the NCH or the MdS
then your friends, colleagues and relatives might be
interested as well. Please let them know and ask them to
donate some money.
I will be updating this page soon so keep on checking
back.
